"Monsoon
Chaos in Maharashtra: Heavy Rainfall, Flood Warnings, and Infrastructure
Strain"
Yellow
alerts and warnings have been issued in Maharashtra due to widespread flooding
caused by heavy rainfall. With severe rainfall expected until July 30th, the
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and
surrounding regions.
Infrastructure and travel have both been badly impacted; Vile Parle is
experiencing traffic jams, and Chembur in Mumbai is seriously waterlogged.
Waterlogging fears forced the closure of the Andheri subway, and landslides
caused traffic to stop on the Raigad-Pune route at Tamhini Ghat. Pune Municipal
Corporation asked businesses to take the situation into consideration and
announced breaks for institutions and schools.
Significant rainfall is also expected in the Konkan and Central Maharashtra areas, according to the IMD. Because of the intense rains, the Tanasa Dam's floodgates at Khadakwasla were opened, allowing water to pour from dams like Khadakwasla, Mulshi, and Pavana has increased.
SpiceJet, Air India, and IndiGo have announced potential flight disruptions,
while local trains are operating at reduced speeds due to low visibility and
strong winds.
