Hemant Soren has included Champai Soren in his new cabinet and allocated several key departments, which is said to have reduced tensions between him and Hemant as Champai was initially reluctant to resign as chief minister.

Preparing for the upcoming Jharkhand Legislative Assembly elections later this year, Chief Minister and JMM Executive President Hemant Soren, balancing caste equations on Monday, allocated departments to 11 ministers in his new cabinet, representing the full state. This is the third ministry of the alliance led by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) since coming to power after winning the November-December 2019 assembly elections. The second cabinet was formed earlier this year when senior JMM leader Champai Soren took over as chief minister after Hemant resigned and was arrested by the ED in an alleged land scam case.

In the 76-member house, including appointed member Glenn Joseph Galston, a total of 45 MLAs voted in favour of the confidence motion. The counting of opposition votes could not be done because the BJP, allied AJSU Party and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) walked out of the House during the counting.


Amid the exodus of members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the coalition government led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) won a confidence vote in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on Monday. A total of 45 legislators, including appointed member Glenn Joseph Galston, voted in favour of the confidence motion. BJP, allied AJSU Party and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) could not count the votes of the opposition due to a single legislator. After the confidence vote, Soren told reporters, "Today we have seen the unity and strength of the ruling coalition again. I thank the Speaker and all the coalition legislators for this." During his response to the confidence motion in the Assembly, the Chief Minister mocked BJP members who had gathered at the well of the House as soon as Hemant started the discussion on the confidence motion, saying that after starting the brief discussion on the confidence motion, the BJP MLAs jumped into the well and returned to the well
