Nicholas Pooran's Explosive Knock Powers West Indies to Victory Against Afghanistan in T20 World Cup 2024 Group Clash"

In today's T20 World Cup 2024 match, Nicholas Pooran's impressive innings of 98 runs off 53 balls helped West Indies reach 218 total runs of 218 for 5. However, the team's bowlers struggled as Afghanistan were all bowled at 104 in their last group match.

Playing in his first match in this tournament, Obed McCoy took three wickets in as many overs, causing trouble for the Afghan middle-order. Spinners Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Moti contributed as Afghanistan were dismissed for 114 runs in 16.2 overs. West Indies lost Brendon King early in the match, but Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran's aggressive batting took the team to 92/1 in the powerplay, the highest score in this T20 World Cup.

Afghanistan's spinners slowed down the run-scoring in the middle overs, but Pooran's explosive batting towards the end allowed West Indies to post their highest score in the T20 World Cup.

Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bowl first. Both teams have already secured spots in the Super Eight stage, but the winner of this match will top Group C. Romario Shepherd is unavailable for the West Indies lineup due to the birth of his second child. He will rejoin the team on Tuesday. Obed McCoy has replaced him, while Shai Hope is also out of the lineup.
